Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 18, 2026
GlowGuard is a browser extension that scans cosmetic product ingredient lists on supported retailer websites and warns you about ingredients that may conflict with your skin profile. This page explains what information GlowGuard collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. GlowGuard does not require an account, and does not collect your name, email address, payment information, or general browsing history.
Information We Collect
Skin profile and settings (stored only on your device)
During setup, you may choose a skin type, skin conditions, allergy/sensitivity triggers, and
preferences such as pregnancy-safe or vegan filtering. These choices, along with your language
and auto-detection preferences, are saved locally in your browser
(chrome.storage.local) and are never uploaded to any account or server on their
own — they leave your device only as part of an analysis request, described below.
Ingredient text submitted for analysis
When GlowGuard detects a product page on a supported retailer (Sephora, Ulta, Cult Beauty, LookFantastic, or Notino) and you request an analysis, the extension sends the following to our analysis server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection:
- The scraped ingredient list text from the product page
- The retailer platform name (e.g. "sephora")
- Your skin profile selections (skin type, conditions, allergy triggers, pregnancy/vegan preference)
- Your selected display language
This data is used only to compute the ingredient-safety analysis returned to your browser. It is not linked to your identity — GlowGuard has no user accounts, and requests are not associated with a name, email address, or persistent user ID.
Manually selected text ("Analyze with GlowGuard")
GlowGuard also adds an "Analyze with GlowGuard" option to your browser's right-click menu, available when you have text selected on any webpage. If you use this option, the selected text — along with your skin profile, as above — is sent to our analysis server the same way as a scraped ingredient list. This lets you check an ingredient list from a page GlowGuard doesn't automatically recognize, but it means you should avoid selecting personal or sensitive text when using this feature.
What GlowGuard does not collect
- No account registration, name, or email address
- No payment or financial information
- No general browsing history — the extension only reads page content on supported retailer product pages, or text you explicitly select and submit
- No advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking SDKs
How Analysis Requests Are Handled Server-Side
Analysis requests are processed by GlowGuard's backend service and are not written to a database or otherwise stored against a user identity. Our server may keep short-lived operational logs (such as the retailer platform, request timestamp, and text length) to monitor service health and prevent abuse; these logs are not used to build a profile of any individual and do not include your skin profile or the full ingredient text.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers or data brokers. Analysis requests are transmitted only to GlowGuard's own backend, hosted on Railway infrastructure, solely to compute and return your analysis results.
Data Retention and Your Choices
- Your skin profile, settings, and recent analysis results are stored locally in your browser and remain there until you clear them, reset your profile in the extension, or uninstall GlowGuard.
- You can disable automatic product detection at any time from the extension's settings.
- Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data.
Security
All communication between the extension and our analysis server uses HTTPS encryption in transit.
Children's Privacy
GlowGuard is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

We may update this policy as GlowGuard evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
